Sound Recipe - Dream-Pop Wash Transitions

Dream-pop section transitions — reverbs and delays that carry the arrangement between verse and chorus: blooms, freezes, tidal washes, reverse swells. Not a full mix recipe (see Effect-as-Arrangement); this focuses on the wash identity specific to Lana / One Dove / icy art-pop space.

The sound should feel:

  • Fluid and blooming (long tails, controlled)
  • Vocal-forward (ducking or low sends)
  • Filtered (returns dark, not bright)
  • Timed to sections (one move per transition)
  • Expensive through ** restraint** — one great wash beats five reverbs

Produced Path — Rev OCEAN wash

  1. Pads/vocal doubles → Rev OCEAN send (not lead vocal dry)
  2. Tide macro up over 2–4 bars before chorus; decay 2–4 s; ducking on
  3. Return HPF ~250 Hz, LPF ~7 kHz; level low until chorus
  4. Freeze at peak, then release into chorus downbeat

  • One shared wash per section change — don't stack Blackhole + Rev OCEAN + VintageVerb all loud
